Fall Report

Overall, we’ve had some mild weather this fall and luckily the storms have missed the Keys up to this point.   However, the wind started to blow out of the north this week and its finally starting to cool off.  The drop in temperature is not always the best thing for fishing, but it will push the birds down this way and we get to watch them for the next couple months.  I’m going to be running more birding trips for November through January so if you have any interest in trying to observe or photograph birds, contact me and I can get you set up with a day on the water.

The fishing in the backcountry was good this summer; there were a lot bonefish and tarpon around and we had a few permit on the flats as well. Depending on the severity of the cold fronts, the flats fishing can get harder as we head into winter, but we still have good fishing options. One of the most noticeable changes as the weather cools off is presence of barracudas on the flats. The cudas like the cooler water so we get a lot more of them during the winter. The last few years the bonefishing has been good in the winter as well.
